My RVF 400
I currently own a 1997 RVF 400 nc35, this is my second rvf as I love them so much, My first was a 1994 model, I found it to be a very reliable bike and great fun to ride, I had upgraded from a CBR 250 (great bike) and loved the increased torque, top end speed and over all feel for the bike.
My new Rvf wasn`t as instantly enjoyable, I bought the bike already modified, it had been derestricted, plug leads and caps changed, suspension settings were way off, it never started properly and seemed to flood in one cylinder when full throttle was applied! The only positive was that it came pre-fitted with a Tyga kit.
I contemplated selling it after a few months as I wasn`t enjoying driving it the way it was running, but thankfully I was too stubborn and didn`t want the bike to beat me,
So 1st things 1st I set out to find out why it wasn`t running right, I stripped the bike down and discovered it had previous electrical problems indicated by scorched wires going into the regulator rectifier, I stripped back the cables, replaced the plastic block connector and cleaned up the spade connectors on the rectifier.
Next I took a closer look at the carbs, I had previously been told the RVF carbs were difficult to work on and get back on, I found it was the contrary, sure enough after taking them apart I found brown slimey dirt on one of the sliders and two of the jets seemed to be blocked, when I was happy at how well they cleaned up I put them back together, cleaned up the carb adapters and bolted them back on, the same day I also fitted a new air filter. The moment of truth, I had put everything back on and hit the ignition and sure enough she fired straight away (after the carbs had filled). Since then it has started every single day on the button with no choke.
The bike was only servised 1000kms ago so theres no point changing the oil or plugs just yet, the next jobs on the cards is bleeding the brakes, flushing out the cooling system, fitting a new exhaust, replacing the front fairing with the new tyga T10 fairing, stripping and rebuilding the forks, painting the brake calipers, fitting some nice carbon fibre pieces, a full moto gp inspired respray and some powder-coating,
Its gonna take some time, it probably wont be all smooth sailing, its gonna cost a fair amount of money, but this is what I love doing and at least when its done it will be a comletely unique machine that I can have complete confidence in, any future work carried out on the bike will be documented and posted to the blog so watch out! :)
